Self-consistent field theories for complex fluids
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent developments in off-lattice self-consistent field theories for inhomogeneous complex fluids are reviewed. Particular emphasis is given to the treatment of intermolecular interactions and compressibility, to the role of fluctuations, and to the discussion of the coarse-graining length which is inherent to the theory. Valuable insight can be gained from the comparison of self-consistent field calculations with Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, some applications of the theory to orientational properties of polymers and copolymers at interfaces, and to the phase behavior of amphiphiles at surfaces, are presented.

A Self-Consistent Technique for the Construction and Evaluation of the Three-Parameter Corresponding States Principles
A self-consistent approach for the evaluation of the existing three-parameter corresponding states principles of non-polar fluids and the calculation of the corresponding states parameters is presented. This self consistent approach is based upon the assumption that the contribution of the third parameter to the thermophysical properties is much smaller than the contributions of the first two p...
متن کاملComputational field theory of polymers: opportunities and challenges
This article highlights my group’s recent progress in developing a new class of computer simulation tools for studying the equilibrium self-assembly and thermodynamic properties of complex polymeric fluids. Our approach utilizes well known formal methods for converting ‘‘particle-based’’ statistical mechanical models of fluids into field theories, but builds on the formalism to develop practica...
متن کاملModel Representation for Self - Consistent - Field Theory of Isotropic Turbulence
In this paper, Langevin model equation is proposed for Fourier modes of velocity field of isotropic turbulence whose statistical properties are identical to those governed by equations of Self-Consistent-Field (SCF) theory of turbulence [J. R. Herring, Physics of Fluids 9, 2106 (1966)].
متن کاملSelf-Consistent hot spot tracing particles by kinetic simulations: With the emphasis on Cusp particle entry
One of the most important advantages of particle simulation as compared to fluid simulation is the capacity for working with and tracing particles. In particle simulations, the test particle method is usually used to get some idea of the behavior of plasma or other substances. In this method, first, a small number of particles are injected into the frame of static electromagnetic fields. Then, ...
متن کاملSelf-Consistent Theory of Orientational Order and Fluid–Solid Equilibria in Weakly Anisotropic Fluids
A theoretical method of studying the effect of weak shape anisotropy on the freezing properties of classical fluids is discussed. A choice of an appropriate reference isotropic potential for a given general anisotropic model leads to the separation of the free energy into the part due to lattice formation, and the orientational correction. The reference free energy is calculated by applying the...
